Okay, so I tried some these ginger candies that a good friend gave me, and my body promptly rejected them. I am totally bummed because I usually really like ginger flavor things. I'm finding that my body doesn't like allot of things that my mouth does. So, I have some questions...
1) Have any of you tried Preggy Pops, Sea Bond or any of the other things that have bought add. space in magazines?
2) Can anyone recommend a vegetarian cookbook that has good tasting, fast recipes? I seem to have much less trouble with veg. meals than meaty ones.
3) Now this question is not on the subject of morning sickness. It is something that I have been worrying about since Friday... Has anyone experienced an ache in the lower abdominal area, not like cramps, but more like what you get when you have had the flu? I have had a persistent ache that is starting to scare me. I can't go to the doctor till after the first of next month but I can call him... should I?
Thanks for listening, or... listening with your heart while your eyes read this post.

I'm so sorry you're feeling yuck!
To your questions:
1) No. The ginger chews worked for me.
2)
3) I'd say "better safe than sorry." Why not call the doctor. (Although they do usually want you to come in to be seen, even if it's not an emergency.) Why can't you go till August? If it's insurance, you might try asking if they offer a special rate for a "cash visit" that is not billed to insurance. I know our pediatrician's office gals did this for us. I think it was about $60 for a visit. My dentist's office also does a similar thing for me because I am a student and don't have dental insurance except for injury/accident.
Whoops! Didn't mean to publish that yet. Where was I . . . ?
2) I have a couple veggie cookbooks my mom gave me that I can bring on Sunday. I haven't really tried them much so can't say how good they are. I've been making veggie slow cooker recipes of late (mostly bean and lentils dishes). If you want to look at my veggie slower cooker cookbook, I can bring that as well.
3) (continued) What to Expect When You're Expecting (do you have this book?) says that abdominal pain can be the result of implantation, increased blood flow, or ligaments stretching. But they seem to say that is mostly pressure- and/or cramping-type pain. They say to call your doctor if you have severe lower abdominal pain on one or both sides (or severe upper-midabdominal pain), especially if accompanied by other symptoms like frequent diarrhea, extremely severe vomiting, etc.
Of course I don't know what the heck I'm talking about, but I wanted to be helpful so here I am just going on about something. Now I'll be quiet. :o)
1. Nothing worked for me, Ashleigh. Sorry.
2. The Vegetarian Mother's Cookbook has some good, easy recipes and is full of lots of crunchy, nutritional tips. It really is a very health conscious book and I do adapt for flavor sometimes. But, it does make sure you eat well (in the healthy sense).
3. I second, Jen. Call your Dr. It is always better to be safe than sorry. And, rest. Try to just lay down for a few days. HOWEVER, I did sort of have a dull ache in the same area during the first trimester of Edmund's pregnancy, though. Not cramping, just achey. My midwife said not to worry. But, still, call your Dr. 1) to be safe. 2) it always helps to be comforted by a professional.
Love,
Kelly
*rant* I hate the "you can't come in until week 8" line you get. Find someone who will listen to you and talk to you. I wound up going to a nurse-practitioner in a GYN-only clinic when I became very sick during pregnancy simply because they would let me come in when none of the traditional offices would. The nnurse practitioner used to do OB, so she knew enough to help, even though she didn't practice anymore. The first several weeks can be scary enough as it is... I don't know why they insist on making it more nervewracking by asking you to go through everything alone. *end rant*
I didn't have morning sickness with our short-lived pregnancy, so I never tried any of the wonder cures. I did have an appetite that wouldn't quit, so I had saltines by the bed. I also needed to sleep something like 20 hours a day. Perhaps between the sleep and constant eating my body didn't have time to decide it was unhappy.
I hope you feel better. :)
Preggy pops kind of helped me, but only temporarily- like 30 minutes. Physical things helped more. Walking in the morning actually helped more. Laying on my side in the evening helped too. Mostly I was just sick.
I have 3 preggy pops. I will bring them Sunday so that you can try them for yourself.
